Hot Shots of the Week: Karen’s Got a Gun

Wake up, Henry.

She’s sorry!!

Just a little love for Lorraine Bracco and the late, great Ray Liotta in Goodfellas (1990).

Speaking of love, and at the risk of oversharing (uh oh, cringe warning), I loved the harrowing bedroom scene a lot when I was a teenager. I rewound and paused my VHS copy of Goodfellas so frequently at this part of the tape that, for me at least, Lauren Bracco looking sexy as hell in her Italian-girl-big-hair-don’t-care, hiked up minidress, smooth and shiny pantyhose, and classic black pumps was the early-nineties equivalent of Phoebe Cates emerging from the pool in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). Bracco actually had two such scenes in this film: an excessive amount of tape-pausing also occurred during the gun-in-the-panties scene.

I should probably talk to a therapist someday about my younger self’s borderline unhealthy preoccupation with Ms. Bracco in these scenes, and what it meant to my formative and, um, seminal experiences. Now, if only I could find a good therapist…

…Oh, hello there!

  1. Great posts from a great film Michael 🙂 One of these days when I post a blog entry regarding my favorite Martin Scorsese films (I love every single film he has directed), I will let you know right away 🙂 Also, do not worry, I think you are perfectly healthy 🙂 Anyway, I do not know If you are familiar with TCM or not (though you probably are), there was recently a commercial or a short on the Tradition of the Double Feature 🙂 Directors Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg and a few others were talking on there recently 🙂 Here is a link below and check out the 0:40 mark of the video – it shows a picture of an advertisement of a film we both love 🙂
