Hot Shots of the Week: She’s a Shue-In

When it comes to formative 1980s crushes, few compare to actress Elisabeth Shue. From The Karate Kid (1984) to Adventures in Babysitting (1987) to Cocktail (1988), she charmed audiences with her stunning, “girl next door” beauty and charismatic onscreen presence. Then in the 1990s she elevated her game—and we all elevated our crushes to downright obsessions—with her Oscar-nominated work in the bleak drama Leaving Las Vegas (1995). Shue is unforgettable as the street-hardened, yet still sweet, prostitute Sera, who falls for an alcoholic, down-on-his-luck, Hollywood screenwriter, played in an Oscar-winning performance by Nicolas Cage.

Shue also happens to be positively, absolutely, astonishingly smoking hot in the film. It’s startling, she’s so gorgeous, so sexy.
