That time Katy Perry went full Catwoman while hawking her own brand of Purrfume.

Obviously, we love cats here at the Starfire Lounge. We used to have one, sadly she passed a few years ago, but the kids are clamoring for another, so I foresee another feline friend in our future.
Of course, here at the Lounge we especially love that most ferocious of feline vixens, Catwoman, and Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal, most of all. We also love that adorable pop tart Katy Perry—especially circa the Teenage Dream era—so it’s fitting she’s back at the Lounge, this time as a sex kitten on all fours sporting a fetching purrple and pink bodysuit (!!). Meow, indeed.

Katy’s ensemble, which she wore in 2010 for a scintillating photoshoot to promote her perfume Purr—or, her Purrfume—is basically an eye-popping amalgamation of Michelle Pfeiffer’s skintight Batman Returns costume with the primary color of Catwoman’s Bronze Age and nineties comic book costumes, plus some hot pink for added fun. It would also fit beautifully inside the campy and colorful aesthetic of the totally awesome sixties Batman television series. Seriously, can’t you just imagine her vamping alongside Caesar Romero’s Joker and Frank Gorshen’s Riddler? With all those worlds colliding, this photoshoot is clearly the purrfect intersection of multiple geek obsessions.

Speaking of obsessions, I was a wee bit enthralled with Katy’s most prolific era of “so tight it’s practically body paint” attire, during which the Purr campaign happened. Has anyone this century rocked latex and spandex better than Katy Perry? Nope. It’s no contest, she takes first prize. In her most exuberantly over the top fashion moments, Ms. Perry has always seemed more than a little like a comic book character come to life. So her riffing on Catwoman feels absolutely, positively, undeniably purrfect. Sorry, I can’t stop with the purr puns—as you can see from the title of this post. Sorry!
Clearly Katy Perry loves cats, to name her purrfume after them. She also seems to love Catwoman, based on these costumes she wore onstage during the Teenage Dream tour. The first resembles Julie Newmar’s costume, while the second has some stitching that’s obviously meant to homage Michelle Pfeiffer’s legendary latex outfit.

While I’ve never sampled Purr, I have heard it smells delightful, and online reviews seem overwhelmingly positive. It’s still out there, and it’s affordable. The Amazon listing’s description is fabulous: “Frisky and feline, Purr’s fruity, floral scent is ready to pounce.” Before all you cat/Katy/Catwoman lovers go stock up on Purr, here’s a little gallery of Ms. Perry from the Purr ad campaign that’s simply sublime and—wait for it—purrfect.
