Hot Shots of the Week: Detective Big Booty Trudy

I watched a lot of Miami Vice growing up, and while Crockett and Tubbs were the dudes and I loved them, I always had a soft spot for Detective Trudy Joplin, masterfully played with sass and warmth by Olivia Brown. Not only was Trudy a good detective, she was also a scorching hot detective, the kind only South Florida can produce. With a wardrobe to envy and a body to pull it off, Trudy strutted and sauntered around Miami in some of the tightest outfits in television history. Squeezing into one skintight tube dress after another, Trudy’s fine figure was always on display. Her bodacious backside even earned her the memorable nickname “Big Booty Trudy,” which was emblazoned across the nameplate on her desk.

Where’s the lie?

I have to assume that was done as an in-joke by some mischievous cast and crew members, but the fact they included it in the show is fantastic. Trudy was so much more than just a big booty, of course, but there’s no arguing the nickname’s accuracy and awesomeness. Look up “sexy,” “sultry,” and “smoldering” in the dictionary and you’ll find a picture of Trudy next to each one.

Heck, I would gleefully commit a vice crime just to get arrested by Detective Big Booty Trudy. Here’s hoping she frisk searches for weapons, too!

Trudy and her booty, alongside Trudy’s equally accomplished and equally hawt Miami Vice partner Gina Calabrese (Saundra Santiago).
The best-dressed vice detectives in America.
Sorry, need a minute to pick my jaw up off the floor.
And THAT is why she’s called Big Booty Trudy.
I can feel it coming in the air tonight OH LORD.
Touched by Trudy. He can die happy now.
That time Trudy slipped into something more comfortable. Olivia Brown’s smile is magnetic!

I usually keep “Hot Shots” a little shorter than this, but once I started selecting Olivia Brown photos I couldn’t stop. So sue me.

  1. Intriguing stuff as always Michael 🙂 I too love watching Miami Vice wherever I can find full episodes (I am aware they are on DVD), but right now, a bunch of other film or DVD takes away my attention from that 🙂 I have also seen director Michael Mann’s 2006 big-screen version of the series of the same name, and that is a great one 🙂 Of course, the film gets away with some stuff that they could not get away with on television. Abel Ferrara, who directed the pilot episode for Crime Story, also directed two episodes (at least I believe) of Miami Vice as well – another Mann product 🙂 Last, but not least, I too am a big fan of Olivia Brown 🙂

P.S. I left a reply under your blog entry regarding “Late Night Memories” it is just awaiting your moderation 🙂
