Michelle Monday

Famed photographer Herb Ritts (1952–2002) took some of the most iconic pictures of Michelle Pfeiffer. The Ritts session I’m sharing today comes from Interview magazine, August 1988.

It was The Year of Pfeiffer in ‘88, at least in terms of her ascension into the cinematic stratosphere, thanks to meaty roles in three great films: Married to the Mob, Tequila Sunrise, and Dangerous Liaisons. It was the year her career really took a massive leap forward, and she followed up in ‘89 with a signature performance as everyone’s favorite chain-smoking escort-cum-lounge singer, Susie Diamond, in The Fabulous Baker Boys (the movie that inspired this blog).

The Interview piece really captured Michelle on the brink of serious stardom. A few years ago Interview shared some “Life Lessons from Michelle Pfeiffer,” made up of quotes from that ‘88 interview. It’s a fun read for pfans, and these are some truly stunning shots of La Pfeiffer having a monster year in ‘88

  1. The timing of this post is uncanny, because I was actually drooling over this pfotoshoot just yesterday. It is a shame Herb Ritts died so young, he always seemed to capture Pfeiffer at her pfinest.
