New Year, Same Susie

Is there any better way to ring in the New Year than being serenaded by the scrumptious Susie Diamond as she writhes atop the piano purring the lyrics to “Makin’ Whoopee”?

As we move into 2026, my head is definitely filled with the sights and sounds of Susie’s iconic New Year’s Eve performance. Every moment of Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance in The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) offers ample evidence why she deserved (and was robbbed of) the Academy Award for Best Actress that year, but the “Makin’ Whoopee” scene is her tour-de-force. Rarely in cinema history has one actor so held audiences rapt with attention. You can’t watch Michelle in that sexy red dress and not be completely absorbed and utterly engrossed in every move she makes and breath she takes.

See what I mean?

On that note, and thanks entirely to Susie’s jaw dropping performance, I’m ready to tackle a new year. And when the year starts to wear me down, as each year seems to do lately, I’ll just rewatch this scene for, uh, rejuvenation. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Happy New Year, fellow loungers!
