Say hello to Angela, the goth demon of your dreams.

Angela Franklin was a model student, but by senior year she’d gone full goth. Known as the school witch, Angela loved dressing in all black, throwing crazy-ass parties, stealing from the local convenient store, being snarky and mouthy, and dabbling in Black Magic —not necessarily in that order. On Halloween night in 1988, during one of her parties at the abandoned, haunted Hull House—where murders had taken places years before—Angela decided to add past-life seance to her bingo card. The seance went awry, unleashing a malevolent demon, which quickly possessed Angela’s slutty bimbo friend, Suzanne, before ultimately taking possession of Angela. Carnage at Hull House ensued, as Angela started turning the other teens into demons or just outright killing them.

This scenario plays out in the ‘80s horror classic, Night of the Demons (1988). This is the film that introduced Bad Girl Angela as a horror movie icon. Played by Amelia Kinkaid, Angela would go on to appear in two sequels, to diminishing returns. Still, Kincaid appeared to be having a blast playing the mischievous demon Angela no matter how silly and terrible the films got. The original works so well because it’s full of Halloween night ambience, dark humor, plenty of T&A (thank you, Linnea Quigley), and gross-out gore effects. I like to watch it annually, around Halloween of course. It just wouldn’t be the Spooky Season without Angela’s psychotic-erotic dancing—if you’ve seen it, you’ll never forget it. Kinkaid is a trained dancer, so it’s no surprise she mesmerizes during Angela’s sensual demonic dance.

As noted, Kinkaid reprised the role of Angela in two sequels, neither of which can match the first film. Still, it’s always fun watching Kinkaid be bad in her most famous and lasting acting role. She left the biz after Night of the Demons 3 and became a professional psychic pet communicator. Hey, follow your dreams, babe. Maybe she threw in the acting towel after the scene in Night of the Demons 3 where she seductively performs fellatio on a gun and sucks out the bullets. She must’ve known there was nothing else she could do to top herself at that point. I’m not positive, but I wager to bet it’s the only such scene in the history of cinema, and boy howdy does Kinkaid sell it. It’s insanely erotic, just like her dance routine from the original film. It’s a definite “pause and rewind” moment, and easily the most memorable thing about that movie.

Angela isn’t a top tier horror icon like Freddie or Jason or Art the Clown, but she definitely has a loyal fan base. Kinkaid must know this because she’s active in the convention circuit and runs a fun Facebook page dedicated to her work as Angela. We horror fans love our Bad Girls, of course, and Angela certainly gives us a lot to love.
