Dangerous Curves Ahead

As we move closer to the end of the year, many cities, towns, and municipalities in cold weather regions are trying to cram in as much last-minute roadwork as they can before the snow flies. That’s not to say they won’t be working during the winter, but this time of year always feels like a last-minute push to get everything done—roadwork, Christmas shopping, maybe accomplish a goal or two we set for ourselves at the end of last year, and so on. I always feel like life is rushing downhill at warp speed—or even ludicrous speed—this time of year, while I’m trying to just chill out as everyone runs around like maniacs trying to jam in everything they can before December 31.

I hope we all find some moments of respite during the chaotic frenzy of the holidays. Try to take those dangerous curves life throws your way with care, and stop to regroup every now and then. It’s important.

Special thanks to a favorite of mine, actress Merry Anders (1934–2012), for providing some appealing visual reminders to take it easy this time of year.

  1. A month ago they repaved a side street in my sleepy little town in South Cackylacky. A week later they repaved it again. Something something tax dollars at work. Unfortunately, none of the flagmen looked like our girl here.

    1. Ugh, that’s unfortunate. The least they could’ve done was hire a Merry Anders lookalike for the job to ease the pain.
