The Guest (2014) turns ten this year, which seems crazy to me. Feels like this excellent thriller, which mixes in some elements of horror, just came out yesterday. Time flies, huh?
Modern day Scream Queen Maika Monroe (It Follows, Watcher, and the recent Longlegs) stars as a young woman who grows increasingly suspicious of a mysterious stranger (played magnificently by Dan Stevens) who ingratiates himself into her family’s life. The Guest takes place around Halloween and most scenes are stuffed full of spooky decorations that are fun to spot in the background. Costume designer Kathleen Detoro also creates some especially eye-catching looks for Monroe, none more so than this sexy-as-hell minidress emblazoned with a menacing skull on the top. The garter straps dangling from underneath the micro-mini are a chef’s kiss accessory. Her character’s baby blue and canary yellow diner waitress outfit is another memorable lewk.
Of course, Maika Monroe is a costume designer’s dream canvas. Just take a look at this publicity shot taken around the time of The Guest.
The Starfire Lounge 
I loved Maika Monroe in It Follows and Watcher. She has a very “girl next door” quality about her.
