“I became a star for two reasons, and I’m standing on them.”
— Betty Grable

American actress and pinup model Betty Grable (1916–1973) was a big box office draw, starring in many successful films during her movie career, including Mother Wore Tights (1947) and How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)—the latter of which I love, and Betty is fantastic as the spunky, leggy blonde, alongside Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall. Like other bombshells of that era, Grable was known for a signature body part—in her case it was two body parts, and oh what body parts they were. Grable’s shapely legs were the stuff of legend—her movie studio even insured them for a million bucks, earning her the worthy title of “The Girl with the Million Dollar Legs.”

Betty Grable’s world-famous legs were profiled in LIFE magazine in 1943. The headline made sure to include prominent mention of those alluring legs, which the magazine dubbed a ‘major Hollywood landmark.’” Of the photos in that LIFE profile, only one out of fourteen included Grable’s face—her head and top were cut off in the other thirteen to showcase just her sexy stems. I mean, I get it. They’re GREAT gams. Take a gander and tell me otherwise…
