Michelle Monday: Susie’s 35th

The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) is one of my favorite movies of all time, and Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance as the sultry singing escort Susie Diamond also ranks among my all time favorites. This site was named for an obscure reference to a club in the film, so it’s only fitting Susie and the Baker Brothers have made several appearances here over the years.

It’s also only fitting to welcome Susie back, as yesterday was the thirty-fifth anniversary of the movie’s release. I love the Baker Boys—Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges are phenomenal here—and writer-director Steve Kloves, but ain’t nothin’ betwr than Susie/Michelle in that tight red dress, belting out “Makin’ Whoopee” atop the piano in the movie’s most famous scene. Scorching hot.

Happy thirty-fifth to the movie that has thrilled and inspired me for all those years.
