I grew up during the Golden Age of Scream Queens. From horror franchise icons like Jamie Lee Curtis and Heather Langenkamp, to B-movie babes like Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer, horror cinema in the 1980s was bursting with feisty female protagonists. The Scream Queens never really went away, of course, and in recent years even seems to be experiencing a bit of a renaissance. I’m thinking of two of my favorites especially, Lauren LaVera from the Terrifier movies and Mia Goth from X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. I love those two, but right now my number one current Scream Queen would have to be Samara Weaving. The Australian actress and model has left her mark on the horror genre in a plethora of memorable roles in films like Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Mayhem, Scream VI, and Azrael.
The Babysitter was the first time she caught my eye and boy howdy did she catch both eyes, dammit. She was absurdly charismatic and stunningly beautiful in the role, then went on to be just as absurdly charismatic and stunningly beautiful in everything else she’s done. She’s acted in plenty of non-horror as well, but she’s certainly built an impressive catalog of Scream Queen performances. The fantastic horror comedy Ready or Not offers the quintessential Samara Weaving performance, a perfect showcase for her deadpan humor, expressive eyes, and knack for playing smart and resourceful characters.
As noted earlier, Samara Weaving is also a model, and, in fact, a pretty damn great model. Our eyes see no lie there. Here’s a volcanically hot gallery of Samara modeling couture that’s sure to please.
