She loves literature and lingerie equally, because she’s deep and complicated. They’re most definitely not going to laugh at her.

Stephen King’s debut novel Carrie was published on this day in 1974. Famously, the manuscript for Carrie was rescued from the trash bin by King’s wife Tabitha after ol’ Uncle Stevie tossed it out in a writerly fit of self-doubt. Thank you Tabitha for saving what the story that went on to launch King’s illustrious career. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film remains one of the very best adaptations of King’s work ever made. If you’ve only seen the movie, I recommend you read the book. It’s a terrific debut novel and essential reading for any Constant Reader.
